Earthquake

By bryan hunt | Sunday, Sep 7, 2008

Walk around Nagoya this week and it will be almost impossible to miss the topic on everybody's mind.

Yes, the big, long overdue earthquake has been predicted to strike Aichi this coming weekend.

A Brazillian with a habit of accurately predicting historical events has predicted it to hit Nagoya with a bang on September 14. This guy is not to be laughed at; he has a 90% accuracy rate and one of his successful predictions includes September 11th, the day America was attacked.

But hey, we all know it is overdue and will happen one day. And it is possible that this weekend will come and go without any drama, so why is everyone cancelling plans and panicking?

If it happens it happens and there is nothing we can do about it.

Yes, we can be prepared with emercency kits etc, but we also have to continue living our life as if September 14 will just be another normal day.

I've heard of one man who has cancelled his camping trip with his son because of the earthquake.

But in theory, being in the outdoors would be safer than being inside one of Nagoya's many high rise buildings, or underground on the subway if the earthquake was to happen.

Prepare, be aware, but don't panic and stress out about an event that may not even happen.

Remember December 31, 1999 was suppose to be the last day of earth, but here we are, 8 years later......
