Turntable Terrorists: DJ Kensuke

DJ Kensuke
In this age, anyone with a few CDs can (and will) call themselves a DJ. This phenomenon has flooded the club scene with thousands of wannabe jockeys. DJ Kensuke is certainly no half-arsed wannabe. Strictly a club-based DJ, playing over 100 gigs a year, and spending every other minute he can find digging the crates and perfecting his technique, Kensuke has no time for and little interest in making tunes of his own.
Kensuke constantly wins deep appreciation from regular party-goers and club headz by blending a plethora of styles and eras seamlessly into carefully crafted sets. Kensuke's B-Boy attitude and his mix of past and present from the genres of hip-hop, R&B, reggae, house, electro, dance classics, soul, rare groove and 80s pop has not only gained him a great deal of support from the club crowds, but also from dancers, his DJ peers, event promoters and other industry types. His mix CD "Dancehall Reggae Mix", which was praised by world-famous DJs, focused on the golden age of dancehall reggae from the 80s to the 90s; stock was sold out pretty soon after release, which only confirmed his popularity and the respect he has gained as a major player.
Kensuke's goal is to "rock any situation, DJ anything, anywhere from your iPod to big venues". He's been exploring different eras of hip-hop, R&B, disco, house, etc., every Tuesday night at "Royal Flush" in Shibuya's Club Harlem, playing flawless sets that accurately reflect his life dedication to music. With this weekly residency at Harlem and regular gigs at other venues around Tokyo, you have no excuse not to go and check him out some time.
