This Month "The Sausage Roll"

Clocking in at ¥2,400 for an "M" size and a whopping ¥3,450 for a large piece of pizza history, this caloric behemoth should come with heart medication. The "Sausage Roll" is a melange of items that even Willy Wonka would be ashamed to combine.

Pizza Hut starts out with a unique idea: sausage and bacon rolled in pizza dough, topped with fruity ketchup and ringed in a circle jerk of mayonnaise around fried shrimp, with a fatty helping of Korean pulgolgi to top it off. Talk about imagination!

A few red peppers offer the only contrast in color with the otherwise pasty complexion of shrimp drowned in bread crumbs and left like beached whales atop a bed of egg and cheese. In fact, in our blind taste test (that was the only way we could eat this one), the overwhelming ambience of "deep fried something" was all that made its way through to the taste buds.

Over on the pulgogi (Korean BBQ) side of things, yet more mayo slathers the fried meaty bits which are accented by a green vegetable of some description which seems to have made it through the fire - though the vivid green depicted here is a bit of salesmanship.

Verdict:  The Pulgogi side wins hands down for sheer fat/ calorie ratio. The fried shrimp portion of the entertainment was actually not so bad for the first slice or two. After that the mayo got a bit dreary - leaving me feeling a bit like Linda Lovelace after a hard day at work. The sausage roll/ bacon crust idea is such a heart attack waiting to happen that you would imagine all that fat and cholesterol would be a bit more fun going down. Instead the "Sausage Roll" was only packing a sock. We give it 4 slices out of ten.
