Gaijin Sounds 2010 - Call For Submissions

By JZ Staff

Japanzine's Gaijin Sounds 2010 issue is in the works - enter by submitting your music now!

• Deadline April 30th.

• Videos welcome this year.
• Winners to be featured in our "Top 20" electronic download.

• Select bands will win a spot on the bill of the "Gaijin Sounds Live 2010" event.

The ribbon has been cut and the Champagne bottle smashed... and so Japanzine is happy to announce the third annual Gaijin Sounds competition officially open!

New to the competition this year is a special section dedicated to the best music videos produced by gaijin artists and bands, as well as the option to submit a maximum of three tracks for consideration. We hope this will let you convey your sound more effectively, and we're looking forward to hearing even more diversity than last year!

As ever, we will publish extensive profiles of selected bands and artists in our June edition. We will once again be offering a free online download of tracks by the winning artists. Plus, there's the prospect of select groups being chosen to participate in the Gaijin Sounds 2010 Live! event, which will happen later in the year (more details to follow).

OK, we can't offer you a record contract (we're just a free mag with a big heart and a dopey smile), but we can help you to get the word out to many thousands of readers across the nation and many more thousands online.

We're looking for music of literally any genre, so even if you're a one-man-band playing soca, get in touch and submit your recordings! Likewise, we're keen to hear studio cuts and live tracks.

The only lineup-related stipulation we wish to enforce is that the band/singer/musician/group/collective resides in Japan, and contains at least one gaikokujin - that is to say, 100% Japanese acts need not apply. Because hey, "This one's for the gaijin."

Now if you're sitting comfortably, we'll begin rattling off our instructions for the submittal process...

1. Power up your CD burner and send us three of your best tracks - and make sure they're originals. Anything other than your own material will land us with serious copyright issues (plus, we're just not that keen on covers). Also include on the CD/DVD any of your music/live videos that you think the world should be watching.

2. Make sure you hold the copyright to the tracks you've recorded and that you are legally allowed to hand them over to Japanzine for the purpose of potentially presenting them as part of a freely downloadable compilation. We aren't going to be selling these tracks, so the only gain to be had will come in the form of exposure.

3. Press materials are welcome, and we actively encourage as many photos as you want to send. Stick them on a separate CD, marked "Pics", and make sure they're of the highest resolution you can manage. Include biographical details, gig listings, facebook pages, URLs... anything you'd like us to plug. We'll do our best to get it all in.

4. Send your bulging packages (fnar!) to the following address before April 30th. REPEAT: the closing date for entries is April 30th. Anything received afterward will be fed to the office dogs.

5. Understand that our judges reserve the right to pick and choose at their discretion, and submission will not automatically result in inclusion.
