Gokiburi Gazette: School Hires First English-Teaching Monkey

By JZ Staff

Let’s English!, a national chain of English schools has hired a chimpanzee to participate as an employee for its new online teaching service, “Happy Talk Network.”

Lulu the chimp has initially been hired to work in the chain’s internet-based teaching curriculum which enables students to conduct a dialog with the teacher in a chat room style format via computer.

While not technically an English speaker, Lulu is capable of responding to symbols resembling fruit, and conveying thoughts such as, “Lulu want banana,” which the company has deemed a reasonably sufficient level of communication for their lower level students to comprehend.

While Lulu will not be paid scale, she will be fed a steady diet, receive a transportation allowance and have her own file folder at the office. A teachers union representative at the school has raised the possibility of legal action if Lulu’s responsibilities are expanded to include conversation classes, something a Let’s representative was unwilling to rule out.

According to the unnamed official, “Other teacher have not so much excitement about their work. Lulu is excitement about teaching.” Meanwhile, a representative for Lulu is negotiating a character goods licensing fee for the chimpanzee to be used in advertisements for the new service.
