Tamara!

By JZ Staff

After last month’s testosterone-fueled trip to the abattoir with The Meat Guy, we thought it best to turn to a woman for her perspective on life as lived in Nag. Luckily for us Tamara Maeda took time out of preparations for MyBar’s upcoming 6th anniversary to sit down and answer our version of the Proust Questionnaire.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I don’t really believe in perfect happiness. If we lived in a perfect world people would have nothing to strive for.

What is your greatest fear?

It would have to be dying before my time. I’m enjoying myself and would hate to leave early.

What historical figure do you most identify with?

Eva Peron. Because I see myself as a strong women like her and also because she is Argentinean like me. I think it is important to feel this way living in Japan because I believe women are often overlooked in the professional world here.

Which living person do you most admire?

My mother. She taught me the basics of life and values.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Sometimes I think I can be over-protective of people close to me. I wish that I could let go a little bit more and let them learn for themselves.

What trait do you most deplore in gaijin?

The Charisma Man / Rockstar Syndrome that many foreign guys develop.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I like to travel whenever possible.

On what occasion do you lie?

If I feel it will save someone close to me some pain.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

I wish I had glasses like The Meat Guy.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Orderliness, sometimes I don’t mind a little clutter. Nobody is perfect.

Which living person do you most despise?

George W. Bush for obvious reasons.

Which Japanese words or phrases do you most overuse?

Niku nashi. I’m a vegetarian.

What is your greatest regret?

That I never became a famous guitar player.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Jay.

When and where were you happiest?

Right here right now.

Which talent would you most like to have?

To play guitar like Slash

What is your current state of mind?

Surprise.  I can’t believe that I still have 17 questions left plus I have to write a haiku.

If you could change one thing about Nagoya, what would it be?

I would like trains to run 24 hours a day so everybody could stay out drinking all night at Mybar.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what would it be?

Me. I’m happy with who I am.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Taking the risk to start my own business.

What is your most treasured possession?

My guitar collection.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

I few years ago I used to suffer panic attacks, they were by far the lowest moments of my life.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I try to see the best in everyone.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

A true gentleman who knows how to treat a woman.

What is the quality you most admire in a woman?

Trustworthiness. You should be able to count on her to be honest and not deceive those close to her.

What do you most value in your friends?

Trust.

Who are your favorite writers?

I really like Carrie Bradshaw’s work. She counts doesn’t she?

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

Spiderman.

Who are your heroes in real life?

Policemen, Doctors, and Firemen.

What are your favorite names

Dopey, Grumpy, Doc, Bashful, Sneezy, Sleepy, Happy.

What is it that you most dislike?

Winter.

How would you like to die?

What’s with the dying fixation?  Dying is the last thing on my mind right now.

Believe in yourself.

Can you write a Haiku for us?
