Wow, a DJ event for Brit rock otaku.  All UK indie/punk/Manchester (as if that’s a genre) from the 60’s to the present.

Bullet for My Valentine @ Namba Hatch (19:00 | ¥8,000) 
I can think of about 8000 things I’d rather do with 8000 yen, but then again I’m not a teenage nu-metal groupie.

friday 3rd
Marble Sheep @ Kyoto Socrates (19:00 | FREE) 
Psychedelic legends (and Captain Trip Records owner) with support from Ultra Bide’s Hide and ex-Kansai Time Out’s Jeff Bell.  Did I mention it’s free?!?


saturday 4th
Speecies / Jet Pepper Tower @ Kyoto FanJ Hall (18:00 | ¥1,800) 
Glammy goth-punk and nu-rave with (wtf?) hot belly-dance interludes?!?  I kid you not.

sunday 5th
Drillman @ Kyoto Socrates (19:00 | ¥1,000) 
Long time skronk-rockers have been doing this since the 90’s (at least) and still sound half-good.

monday 6th
Jojo Hiroshige @ Namba Bears (19:00 | ¥2,000) 
Who knows whether infamous Alchemy records owner will go noisy or folky…or both?  BYOB

There are worse ways to spend a Tuesday then with this reggae and dub DJ event.  BYOGanja, though.

A chunka change to see these metal legends, but ND have the headbanging cred.

The best in local hipster hip-hop.  If that’s your bag, better cruise on down.

Lolicore screamer is a riot live.

saturday 11th
Derrick May (DJ) @ Triangle (23:30 | ¥3,500) 
Grumpy old techno godfather plays an allnighter.

sunday 12th
Yann Tomita @ Noon (18:30 | ¥3,000) 
Much less grumpy grandfather of Japanese electronic music is someone you should probably see just to say you did.

monday 13th

New band from ex-Bogulta/Zuinosin drummer NANI.  Expect the unexpected and bring earplugs.

tuesday 14th
Emma (DJ) @ Kyoto World (10:00 | ¥3,000) 
Nothing wrong with a night of mindless house and hot babes (of both sexes) once in awhile, and this (admittedly lowbrow) event will probably not disappoint.

wednesday 15th

Some decent alternative girlie garage punk from these Tokyoites.

Slightly middle-aged avant-garde rock and electronic shitstorm featuring Jim O’Rourke, and members of Tape, Nekonemuru, and Hoodrum.

Damo Suzuki’s Network @ Kyoto UrBANGUILD (8:00 | ¥3,000) 
Holy hippie krautrock orgies Batman, infamous Can-man meets members of SOFT for an old school psychedelic freakout.

saturday 18th

Ultra heavy Berlin dubstep party (also featuring equally dubby UK DJ Madd).  Should be damn decent.

sunday 19th
Diamond Cutter in Osaka @ Triangle (9:00 | ¥3,500) 
“Women Onry Party” as the flyer says.  Judging by the pics (not like I can get in myself, is it?), it’s pretty swinging.  Expect house, mainly.

monday 20th
Praed @ Kyoto Socrates (7:00 | FREE) 
Yet another in the increasing number of free “Seed Night” events for local foreign and domestic weirdees.  Tonight:  electronic squelching and clarinet from this Beirut-Bernian.

See the kind of the Kyoto underground rock scene…for free?!?  Buy some booze and some of Hide’s home-pressed CDs in thanks…

Uber-hip indietronic rock from Thrill Jockey types out of L.A. and Sweden respectively.

Genius behind Plug and Wagon Christ (seminal abstract electronic if you’re too young to remember the 90’s) with support from local celeb DJ Baku.

Better get there early, because the psych-god legends are likely to pack the place.  BYOB

Creepy new rave meets goofy all-girl garage punk.  A fun night out for sure.  BYOB.

Long-seller (and long suffering) Kansai rockers actually put on a good rock n’ roll show.
