Also I have been visiting Japan for over 20 years and I write articles about Australian and Japanese business plus other Asian businesses for Australian, New Zealand Jpaanese and other Asian media. I do editing and proofreading of Japanese company's and individual's written English too.

Have fun, take time for you, work hard but do not be a workaholic and let work consume you.

Absolute extremes abound in Japan wherever you look.

Dumplings for sale
Long queues wait in line for the freshly made dumplings at an Osaka Department store. Only one very speedy sales assistant serves the masses while ten people are at the back preparing the dumplings. Two other sales assistants seem to be setting up boxes and the one speedy rather stressed sales assistant continues serving ...

Withdrawing cash from an ATM and getting your bank balance with a foreign (non Japanese) bank keycard is not so easy in Japan, unless you know how.
First - about the rising yen against the $Australian
As a regular traveler to Japan and an Australian, I have watched the rise of the Yen against the $Australian ($AUD) over the past 25 years. In 1981, my first trip to Japan, the rate was around Yen 300 to $1AUD. In 2008, $1AUD fetched Yen ...

Most tourists to Japan, whom I meet when I am traveling Japan, have a two or three week Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) that they use to speed around the country on the Shinkansen, or bullet train as it is widely known. The traditional JR Pass, that enables you to travel across Japan on all JR lines (except on the Nozomi Shinkansen) is really handy and economical if you are travelling from say Osaka to Tokyo and then up north to ...

Tokyo Revenge - Koko the robot on the move.

It was midnight and the 24 hour shifts no longer operated in the Tokyo truck assembly plant. With the 2009 recession and less consumer demand for large trucks, production was now only from 7AM to 7 PM now. The two meter tall manufacturing robots stood deadly still on the assembly line. Their long mechanical arms resting forlornly at their sides and they were due for maintenance ...
